Home and back to it…. for five weeks…

A quick 2 hour flight and the four of us were returned to Manchester where we were greeted by a huge line waiting to pass through passport control / border security. Lots of families arrived into the airport from other countries at the same time and when the kids are under 12, all the family passports are checked manually…

Charlie was also waiting for us and was sparkling clean after the valet team had washed and vacuumed the car while we were in the sunshine 👌

Daddy has cut the grass at both Turner Close and Kirkby Grange Farm, so the places both look lived in again – both places were looking rather overgrown sadly – although it has highlighted the need for a strummer, so once we get the deposit for the rental car back (€1200, then an order will be placed πŸ™‚

Elliot has finished his homework with some help from mummy as he needed to bake a cake for his Wednesday night series – it smells fantastic – sadly we won’t be testing it for him as it is going into school in the morning.

Daddy has a couple of weeks of UK only travel so no flights for a couple of weeks.

The sunglasses that daddy bought on the way out to Majorca broke on day 6, so he will be taking them back to the departure lounge in Manchester T1 to see if they will do anything about it – fingers crossed.

We had a terrific time and have taken lots of photos so will try too figure out how best to pop them up on here for all to see in the coming days. Stay tuned… Portugal in 5 weeks 🇵🇹 😊

Majorca

We are staying in a lovely resort to the North East of the island called Cala Mesquida – sadly we encountered rain yesterday morning so decided to head out to Alcudia on a little road trip and wow – what a beautiful place Alcudia Old Town is…

We stayed for a lovely dinner in a small restaurant with seating on a walkway so we could watch the world go by. Alcudia seems to have many more English voices than we have heard elsewhere – mainly German in the resort and nearby locations it seems.

We enjoyed an ice cream on the way back to the car and Olly has a slush puppy (or a Spanish equivalent) that he promptly threw away – accordingly it was not a great equivalent…

We saw these a couple of nights ago in Cala Agulla – can be rented for €25 – sadly Olly doesn’t have a driving license so can’t get in one..

Finally, the poor little monkey has been up a few times in the night vomiting πŸ™ so the beach day today has turned into a relaxing room day it seems.

Hopefully he is back to usual soon, oh and that none of the rest of us get the bug too….

End of the holiday blues….

So the week has passed by super quick. πŸ™ Back to school and work for all of us tomorrow.

We have got a few things done but still feel a little blue overall.

These are the success stories;

  • Bedroom furniture has been ordered and the deposit paid – six to eight weeks and we should be a GO
  • Helped Clare and Warren move into their new pad on Tuesday – not sure if we were help or hindrance but we helped nonetheless πŸ™‚
  • Trailer ordered and collected (yesterday) from a company in Kettering so we nipped in to see Kerrie on the way back – their house is coming along very nicely and will be simply awesome when it is complete.
  • Tractor mower and smaller petrol mower ordered and paid for – delivery in roughly ten days to two weeks πŸ™‚
  • Chesterfield seat cushions taken to a guy in Tingley to make some ne cushions in a very nice tartan material plus some scatter cushions – great deal and will look to have them make us a bed and chaise longue for the bedroom – will be really nice looking at the other gear that guy has built – and V he an have all the sparkly bits πŸ™‚
  • Oliver out for day with Joe and Karis and Riley (Friday, Tuesday and Monday respectively
  • Tonight Greg helped Simon figure out the shower leak – Simon had already opened up the small access hole from inside Elliot’s bedroom – the trick was switching the shower on and watching for a leak – it came rather quickly from the Grohe unit itself so once we figured that and got the unit out, deconstruction showed water staining where we believe the leak to be – Greg has taken a part away for a rubber a ring to hopefully fix it – failing this we will look for a replacement unit – at least we now KNOW that the problem is NOT the pipes underneath the shower itself as they would definitely be a BUGGER to put right…
  • We have bought a fab fire pit to enable us to sit around in the summertime and roast marshmallows etc
  • We have researched garden furniture and Costco seem to offer the best option – we just need to figure out if we think we need to spend almost Β£2k on four seats and a small table with burner built in (the seats at reclining spinning beasts so not overly expensive for the size etc
  • Sorted the office – we now have a sorted office setup
  • Sorted the home wifi – with Lee’s help we have bought new wireless access points and router that now give wifi all around the house- BIG thumbs up

So, I guess we have got through loads of things – it just feels like we have wasted a lot of time along the way…

Happy holidays 😀

Another productive day :-)

The ivy has now been removed from the side of the house and is bagged up, ready to head to a recycle centre on Friday 👍

We have also taken Hugo for a nice 4K walk – it feels so much longer when the wind is driving and you are needing wellies through mud and the trees etc – will need to find a longer trek although we also don’t need him to get used to that length of walks every day….

The Christmas tree has been cut up and burned πŸ™‚

We even managed to get down to Grandmas to get a parcel sticker for the Tippy that was too small and it is now on its way back to its supplier and a bigger one is on its way here on Thursday – big thanks to Grandma and Grandad for sorting it for us – it will make a huge positive difference when it comes to getting the ash out of the lounge πŸ™‚

We are EATING through wood in the burner today – the Christmas tree has left plenty of sap on the glass so (as per the recommendation of the chimney sweep) we just need to ensure that the whole system gets plenty of burn for the rest of the day to ensure none of the tar sticks to the pipes πŸ™‚

Simon has also figured out how to get the TV in he ensuite out and has contacted the manufacturer for information about the symptoms. Already has a response and basically it needs a new power supply and the DVB tuner appears to be dead – so it can be resurrected but ideally needs replacing – at Β£700 it can wait as it is hardly a pressing need for TV while sat in the tub etc.

We need to sort the alarm system and a safe first πŸ™‚

Oh and finally, we arranged two holidays last night so have a Portugal break planned for the start of the summer holidays, a CenterParcs trip for Bonfire night and are looking to sort a break down to Devon/Cornwall at the end of the summer holiday – #Winning

Cracking start to 2017

We have had a couple of great days already this year πŸ™‚

Yesterday we went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park with the Drewett’s and the Box’s for a lovely walk around. The weather just held out for us – it rained all morning and stopped just 30 minutes before we needed to go 👍

Today has been lovely and peaceful iced to Grandma’s just before lunch after dropping a pile of cardboard at the recycle centre and some glass bottles at the Flockton recycle centre (Kirklees don’t seem to recycle glass bottles with the main recycling stuff so we will need to get used to doing it manually).

Then back home to wait for a chimney sweep named Martin to come by and sweep the main chimney stack – he was a lovely character with lots of stories and great information to tell us about our burner and how best to use it etc.

We also had a pack of 6 or more dogs running through the back garden – when we went out to investigate, it seems that it was a pack of dogs that were part of a fox hunt – never witnessed anything quite like that before – part of countryside living πŸ™‚

Great to have the fire back in operation and have been given e green light to use the smokeless oval logs to keep the thing going through the night as well as the green light to burn the Christmas tree in the unit – accordingly burning items like the tree every once in a while will not cause problems – so Simon will be cutting the tree up tomorrow in preparation πŸ™‚
