Firework Champions at Newby Hall

On Saturday afternoon, we drove up to Newby Hall to attend the 2021 Firework Champions.

We attended the same event two years ago with Rob, April and Isabel and had a fantastic time, so when we realised that the event was on once again this last weekend and that we had already booked and paid for tickets, we were absolutely delighted.

We pitched up the gazebo and enjoyed some wonderful food with great company…

There were ultimately thousands of visitors so having selected a gazebo pitch was a super smart move, to ensure that we could enjoy the show with plenty of space for us all. The following picture was taken v early on, before most people had settled in…

This year, we were to enjoy some aerial fireworks that were delivered from two planes that were also performing some incredible acrobatics to boot, before the main event as the skies darkened sufficiently.

Finally, we settled in to enjoy the three companies that were competing and we hope that we will be able to secure tickets for next years event…

Meet Toshiko

This morning we headed out early to collect Toshiko – Oliver’s new Axolotl – he is only about 3 or so inches long and is about three months old.

He has been waiting on the little fellas arrival for weeks now – however we have been unable to properly cycle the water in the new tank so we are in the process of ‘tubbing’ – essentially we have two small plastic tubs and we need to change the water daily in it as the little chap can’t stay swimming in its own waste for more than a day at a time.

Thankfully, the guy that we collected Toshiko from was super helpful and gave us a piece of his sponge filter to help kick start the cycle in our larger tank. Hopefully it will work and we will be able to run a cycle or two before introducing Toshiko to his real home.
