Palmer Sport fun at the weekend

Last weekend, daddy and Lee were treated by their families to have a day playing out at the Bedford Autodrome with 40 other guys and gals to race various cars around a multitude of different circuits. The weather had been glorious for several weeks so of course Saturday was the day that the heavens opened for the majority of the day!!!

We started with a lovely full english breakfast and were promptly put into our teams of around 12 and given the plan as to which vehicles we would be driving first. Our team (team Rosberg) were going to be going straight onto the Formula 3000’s – the only cars that did NOT have an instructor sat with you and of course a 3 litre V6 engine with little weight and of course RAIN – oh my this was to be fun. We loved it of course and managed to put in what we felt were pretty impressive times – when we look at the video that they shot of us, it really doesn’t look that impressive – take a look.

From here we went onto the Caterham’s in a race against another car that was sat on a mirror of the track that we were on – it was like driving on ICE!!! Then the Landrover Defender experience which just reminds you as to how impressive cars can be with hills and streams and all that.

Next up was the Ariel Atom – an explosively quick machine that simply had daddy’s head exploding – he was seeming unable to get his head around breaking BEFORE cornering and NOT during cornering. The brakes are lethal and once they bite hard, there is nothing stopping the car – so one spin in it at the end of the main straight under braking and a small 30 foot field trip on an early corner where I simply locked up and went straight forward…. πŸ™

Lunch was served – a beautiful steak with the trimmings – then back out to the BMW M4 GTP – holy crap these things are FUN. Daddy managed to get the quickest lap of ALL 42 people on this so managed to bag a prize later in the day πŸ™‚

On to Caterhams again but this time in a circuit environment and it was at this point of the day when the heaviest rain came down – that car was the MOST fun of all of the cars but also the most crazy – it didn’t warrant anything really to push the rear end out into insanity πŸ™‚

Finally, we finished the day in the two seater Jaguar race car (same as the F3000 but with a different body and two seats) which was just awesome and then lastly the g0-karts which on we tracks are just great fun.

A truly wonderful experience that was made possible by Vicky and Caroline – happy days and great fun.

Terrific weekend with the Folks in Northern England

On Thursday afternoon Simon collected Jason, Amy and Charlotte Folks from their hotel in London and all drove back up to sunny Yorkshire for a fantastic weekend of fun in the North.

We started by spending a day in Leeds and York, sightseeing with the Royal Armouries and the wonders that York has to offer.

We covered almost 6 miles on foot, much to the displeasure of Oliver and Elliot πŸ™

Then on Saturday morning we set out early for Lake Windermere where we immediately head over to Hill Top to visit Beatrix Potter’s home and gardens – a true delight and slightly disappointing that over the last 25 years of heading to the lakes, we had never been there before….

Back to Bowness for lunch and the required trip to Helen’s chocolates before heading up to Grasmere for park time, gingerbread (of course) and a visit round to the Wordsworth graves.

Next was Waterhead where we enjoyed a hot chocolate dipped ice-cream before boarding a boat on a short trip round to Wray Castle, Brockholes before going straight back to Waterhead – all in all 50 minute ride (we didn’t get off until our return to Waterhead).

Finally, we got back in the car and head to the hotel – Appleby Castle. That’s right we stayed in a 12th century castle overnight – the Folks stayed in the State room and the Rust’s in the cottage that has just been renovated (used to be the brewery accordingly). We enjoyed a private dining experience and while the food was average, the company and experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Sunday morning consisted of a two hour breakfast (VERY short staffed) and an external tour of the castle grounds before being shown around the internals of the castle by the estate manager (Peter) – he showed us the tower, the dungeon, the bedrooms and even gave a story about the paranormal activity (not much of it in honesty but very interesting nonetheless.

We travelled back to Ossett for a BBQ at Grandma and Grandad’s where the kids enjoyed larking around with iPad’s etc and a good mess around in the pool after dinner.

Simon and Elliot dropped Jason, Amy and Charlotte off at Wakefield Westgate railway station for the 9:58 train to London Kings Cross station this morning for a teary farewell.

We look forward to meeting up again in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

Safe travels Folks – thanks for the memories

xx

Kerrie and Spencer Wedding Weekend

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend celebrating the weeding of Kerrie and Spencer in the beautiful location of Temple Guiting in Gloucestershire – the happy couple rented the Temple Guiting Manor house and accompanying barns for their weekend of celebration. 30 people in all were there and we filled theΒ place and seemingly drank and ate an AWFUL lot – the clean up took most of the morning on Sunday!!!

The beautiful church was a short 100 metre walk down the lane so everything was right there in easy reach for all of us and the sun was of course shining down on us all.

Back to the manor for some fizz and laughter along with photograph opportunities…

The location for the Wedding Lunch was simply stunning..

We are so pleased to have been involved in sharing the day wth Kerrie, Spencer and their wonderful friends and family.

Ed’s Birthday weekend in Middleton on Leven

Finally, it is Ed’s turn to hit the big 4-0 so we have rented a lovely house out in North Yorks for the weekend.

The boys head out on Saturday mid-morning to a place up the coast in Seaham where we got to play in mud buggies for around an hour πŸ™‚

Initially we wer disappointed as the organisers said that we couldn’t use their standard course as it was too muddy πŸ™ however, they popped us on a longer course that we think was significantly better πŸ™‚ Take a look at how it turned out πŸ˜€

Half way through we stopped and turfed out about 5lbs of mud and ripped up grass πŸ™‚

A sensational day was had with a lovely meal cooked for us in the house by personal chef Matthew Brown – what a fantastic meal…. Will try to find more pictures soon and get them posted.

New Years walk

We took a picnic to Rother Valley Park this morning and took the dog for a nice long walk in the muddy fields around the lake.

This year was a little different to the last time we were there in that we have Hugo now and the fact that it was not horizontal raining today πŸ™‚ we also got to watch some jet-bikers skipping around the smaller jet-ski lake – those bad boys didn’t sound much but by crikey they were FAST.

Hugo managed a two hour wander around with no intention of weeing despite being placed in ideal grassy circumstances for at least 20 minutes at the end of the walk – then promptly weed in the car less than 5 minutes after having got in, while we were getting out of our wellies etc πŸ™

Thankfully he stayed clean and dry for the remainder of the journey as we called into Coast to Coast restaurant in Sheffield’s Centertainment area πŸ™‚

Then homeward for a cheeky New Yeara Gin and Lemonade πŸ™‚ Such sweet joys …
