25 years on…

A quarter of a century has passed since dad departed our world – while we don’t think of him everyday, we know his wisdom lives on in all of us. My boys recognise his picture instantly, although they never knew him nor will they ever understand why he is not with us all.

We have been reading some of the wonderful messages from various friends and families who had differing levels of touch with him over the years – it is truly wonderful to read these messages and for such vivid images and recollections to still be available to people is truly touching.

It all gives perspective to our usual and ordinary lives in a special way.

Dad, it goes without saying that we all miss you (even my own boys who never met you) and we will continue to do our best to use the wisdom and skills that you gave to us and of course pass it on to the best of our ability to those around us.

See you again soon 🙂

Big week coming up

We have a pretty big week ahead of us – three estate agents coming to review and value ForkHall in readiness for putting the place up for sale.

Then we have the meeting with the bank to arrange the mortgage for the new pad…

Gulp – we hope it all works out just fine – much to do and not enough time…

Dishwasher not broken afterall

So, 2 months after the dishwasher started tripping the electrics, Simon decided it was time to remove it and get a replacement sorted.

The strange thing was that upon final test before unplugging from the water and waste, Simon decided to give it one last go. Strangely it was dead and wouldn’t even switch on. So out came the trusty mains tester screw driver to try to ascertain where the power fault was – following 30 minutes of checking and re-testing the screwdriver to ensure that it actually worked, it transpired that the problem was quite an embarrassing one. Some of the crockery in the cupboard to the left of the dishwasher had slipped and inadvertently switched off the plug (that Simon was not aware of existing – clearly had been installed by the kitchen fitters when the kitchen was upgraded 4 years ago!!!!) and hence power was not being supplied to the dishwasher.

Once switched on, all was well and the rinse programme worked just fine. So next was to try a usual wash and surprise surprise it worked just fine too.

Therefore Simon surmises that the crockery had possibly got the switch in a half on half off scenario and the load (when the water heater kicked in on the dishwasher) was causing a surge that the plug handled badly.

So, we are now 500UKP better off as a new washer appears to not yet be required and Simon is no longer required to wash dished 5 times a day 🙂

Yay.

Toy room tidy…

As part of the Fork Hall renovation we decided to convert the current toy room into into a TV room and spare room with a sofa bed for guests should we need it.

We will be popping a TV and the XBox in there for the boys to be able to relax without needing to interrupt the whole household.

So, we have taken six bin bags of old and broken toys to the household recycle centre this morning while prepping four or so more bags of things to take to charity shops or similar.

We also found time to get over to the cinema to see “The Secret Lives of Pets” at the Leeds Showcase 🙂 it was a great movie but sadly all of the great bits were used as the trailer that we have seen on TV etc. Hence lots of padding around said funny bits….

Hopefully we will be painting the new spare room later this week before the wedding at the weekend and our Fuerteventura holiday the weekend after.
