Cracking day at Sherwood Pines
Grandma cuckoo and Nard came over first thing to look after Hugo while the rest of us were to head out to Sherwood Pines with the bikes and the Drewett’s and the Box’s.
Gracie had stayed overnight last night so she came with us as well and despite our best intentions, we still only managed to get on the road at 10:25 although isn’t was foggy – thankfully the sun came out not long before we arrive π
We actually made good time and pulled into Sherwood Pines at 11:30 right behind Ed and Sharon.
We all got straight out on the bikes and cycled the family route (green) which lasts about 4K or so – pretty straightforward and neither of the boys complained once – happy days.
Then back to the cars and we setup our camp in a quiet corner – the disposable BBQ’s were lit and the kids started playing football and rugby.
We had a lovely BBQ in the sunshine and played rounders, cricket, football, rugby as well as the kids sneaking around the skills park on their bikes.
All in all a funtastic day in the sunshine in late September with a BBQ to boot – all happy π
We should absolutely do this more often – great fun day in sunshine with great friends – can’t ask for more
Ale Trail in the sunshine
Yesterday daddy set out with the boys early to head out on the Ale Trail once again. A bacon butty in Leeds was the strategy in order to have a hot pie and peas in Stalybridge – only when we arrived there was no hot food on – Strategy Failure π
However the sun was glorious so we managed a couple of pints – as we sat back enjoying the beer and conversation Stalybridge went from being very quiet to super busy as all the other ale trailers rocked up.
Lee came up with the wisdom of the day – missing out Greenfield (as there I no beer garden of consequence) so that we could head straight to Marsden and stay in the sun and crucially ahead of the queue of trailers π
We enjoyed a light lunch at the RiverHead Tap pub again, in the sunshine and following three pints there we head on to Slaithwaite where once again we sat out in the sunshine, enjoyed two pints and a warm pork pie – a GOOD pork pie at that π
Then on to Huddersfield where there was a huge beer festival going on right outside the railway station so we didn’t bother heading into the pub – just a cheeky couple of ales in the Huddersfield sunshine π oh, and a nice ice-cream π
Then it was back on the train for Mirfield (our final train journey) and a short walk over to the Flower Pot – that’s right another couple (well for daddy one was a coke) of beverages in the sunshine.
We grabbed a taxi up to Grangemoor and Grameen for a curry where we bumped into Grandma and Granddad who were out for a meal also.
The great news was that meant a lift home afterwards π Winner.
A fantastic day with sunburn to prove it and incredibly no headache this morning π
Terrific weekend – now back to it for 3 weeks
We have sadly come out of the other side of a terrific weekend – Saturday was a day of BBQ over at Rob and April’s and despite the rain (there was LOTS of it), it was a truly fantastic day – Rob made some pulled pork that was literally the best pulled pork we have ever experienced – just WOW. Wine and laughter accompanied good friends and the kids just played and played all day, with the finale being some fireworks that Tracey had found Β in their garage.
Then yesterday, we went over to grandma and granddad’s for another BBQ and again the food was great, the conversation great but to really top it the sun came out, and came out for real – it was a scorcher, so being sat in the BBQ pit area was simply delightful – hot sun mixed with little clouds and no wind made for perfect conditions. IT did mean that we were all dreaming of our holidays which are only three weeks away, but it still feels like an eternity away….
All of this following daddy’s results from his over 40’s medical check up – all OK except cholesterol levels which are sadly rather high π Presently the level is 5.9 and really needs to be under 5.1 apparently. Also, when this was checked back in 2009, the level was 4.5 so something is not going in the right direction π On the plus side, his chance of heart attack etc is only 3.03% in the next 10 years so that is a positive – now just to sort the diet to lose the extra weight that has appeared in the last 2 months and work on reducing the cholesterol… Typical, with a holiday coming up…
Whinfell Weekend
Mummy and Daddy head out to Whinfell Forest on Friday night (just after 6pm) to celebrate with Dafit and Jilly for their 15th wedding anniversary. We arrived at just before 8pm and walked up to the apartment with our gear. Like most times, daddy got it all wrong and so we should have simply driven up to the apartment and then brought the car BACK to the car park but nevermind.
The boys were staying at home in Ossett and Granny Cuckoo and Nard came over to look after them.
The weather was simply terrific with sun all day on Saturday even that far North π so sunburn a plenty π
We had a few cheeky beers as the day progressed, but only two before setting foot on the Segway experience – my word how much fun can be had on two rugged wheels π Dafit managed to have Simon crash and burn in the first 10 minutes as he was not paying attention as Dafit slowed to a stop in front of him…. π
45 minutes later we stepped off the Segway X2’s with that moment crossing each of ourminds – “Wonder how much they cost….” soon forgotten as we head back to the nearest bar for the start of the rest of the afternoon.
We made it to dinner somehow having spent an hour or so sat out on the grass with 90’s music blaring and beverages and peanuts a plenty being consumed. Dinner was lovely with four steaks and you guessed it – more beverages.
The Sports bar was our next target although Dafit decided it would be a good idea to show his “willies” – he meant wheelies on his bike but of course we weren’t letting him get away with that one – somewhere there is a recording of his efforts although to be honest it isn’t worth wasting your time to watch it π
The sports bar gave Jilly the chance to shine with her karaoke (we took our own music on a phone and just sang along) and dancing – the running man being particularly impressive π There were several families who will not be forgetting the performance in a hurry. In fact Vicky has just this evening received a text from Jilly who has been accosted by an unknown female at the resort who was congratulating the dancing from the previous night – great result π
Finally we head over to the Lakeside Inn for a final scoop – as Simon was selecting his chosen tippled, Dafit decided to try to read the name of it from the bottle. It was a Jennings Sneck Lifter from Cumbria – accordingly to Dafit’s eyes, this was actually a Snatch Lifter – had the barman in tears as he removed the lid from the cheeky bottle of Snatch Lifter π
It was a BIG day so when we all hit the ay at just after 12:30, I don’t think any of us remember much until almost 10am this morning.
We had booked ourselves into the Field Archery at 1pm so plenty of time for a mega breakfast at the Sports bar – thankfully no-one from the previous night was there so we avoided any issues over dancing or karaoke.
The field Archery was INCREDIBLE – the guide (Alex) was spot on with lots of laughter and puns along the way. We would definitely do the archery again should we find ourselves in a position to be able to do so.
Then it was the 2 hour drive home in Charlie to get back to the kids and Grandma / Nard.
Fish finger sandwiches and ice-creams sorted dinner out, bath and then bed for the boys.
Sadly poor Olly seems to have a temperature so we have a feeling he may not be available for school in the morning – let’s just wait and see.
Finally, we have found out that Granddad rugby tackled one of Oliver’s classmates dads at a birthday party that both boys attended on Saturday – we are wondering if we are going to need to apologise or perhaps we just won’t bump into him next week…. π
Apparently he was cheating at the game they were playing so a rugby tackle was required to stop him and allow Elliot to take the flag for victory….
