Sherwood Forest

We have arrived in Sherwood Forest and got settled in – the lodge is lovely – we weren’t sure what to expect given we got Hugo with us but it is lovely.

We were late setting off as we needed to wait for a chap to show up to check out the shower that has been broken. He diagnosed that the remote unit was faulty and thankfully had a spare in his van so we now have a working setup. We do however need to look to relocate the aerial as the system is only 2.4ghz so it will struggle to communicate through the heated flooring 🙁

Anyway, the weekend has already begun although we missed the opportunity to get a swim in before dinner tonight 🙁 will take the puggle for a nice walk around the place instead – the boys will be OK with it as we brought their bikes so they don’t have to walk 🙂

Daytripping and chores

Yesterday, Elliot and Simon went on a little day trip to York, via the 232 bus to Huddersfield then a train to York. We enjoyed walking around the city, a cheeky Pizza Express and of course a Costa.

We were unable to get into the Jorvik centre as the queue was rather large and when we arrived at the Chocolate museum, it was sadly the same message 🙁

However, we had a fun time nonetheless and decided to get a taxi back from Huddersfield railway station as the bus is a 40 minute affair and I think Elliot had endured enough earlier in the day 🙂 however, the taxi driver was a few days past his last shower requirement so it was a pretty smell 20 minute journey instead – was almost the sort of smell that made your eyes hurt….

While Simon and Elliot were out, Oliver had school friend Joe over for the day and they played around the house, cycled in the garden and drove Vicky mad 🙂

We all nipped out for dinner at TGI Friday’s before dropping Joe at home on our way home.

Today had been about continuing leaf burning in the garden (it has been burning all week long) and sorting things such as household insurance. We managed to save £80 so that was a nice result 👍

Tomorrow, we have a chap coming round to check the Grohe shower unit and hopefully will figure out why it doesn’t work. Following this, we are all heading down to Sherwood Forrest to spend the weekend in Centerparcs – even Hugo is invited.

Holiday at home

Daddy is on holiday this week and Olly was out at Joe’s for the day, so Elliot and daddy had some time in the garden burning the bags of leaves that we have collected as well as collecting up yet more leaves. Elliot rode the mower to collect the freshly dropped leaves from the garden after daddy had raked them out of the shrubs.

Then, after lunch we headed out to get some th8ngs from the DIY store to build up a couple of compost heaps – after over £100 (☹️) and a few hours of moving leaves and old grass clippings around, we now have two large compost areas at the end of the garden.

Hopefully, they will begin to produce appropriately and next year will not have the same challenges as this year with regards to overrunning the area with grass clippings. We will need one more compost area so that we can manage all of the requirements -there is certainly one more required to handle what we already have. We will therefore need to burn more leaves etc as well as as the existing bush clippings that were left in that part of the garden from times gone by. So, that is a few more days of burning required 😀

Lawn hoover and Rugby

The back garden had a huge amount of leaves that are amassing so daddy decided that it was time to rake them up in easiness for burning / composting. 20 minutes of raking was beginning to form blisters so daddy decided to see if the mower would collect the leaves quicker – lifting the cutting blades up so that they would not actually cut the grass and BOOM – a handy sit on leave vacuum cleaner 👍

25 minutes later and all the leaves were collected up and in a handy pile by the burning bin. 15 minutes later and the mower was away and the leaves bagged up ready for whatever will happen with them next 😀 RESULT

That was yesterday – today we took the boys down to the Huddersfield Rugby Club to checkout the junior squads. Oliver literally got stuck straight in with the under 9’s while Elliot was adamant that he was there just to watch this week – he has promised to get involved from next week onwards.

They have what looks like a great setup, so we are hoping that they really get involved and get a bit of fitness as well as enjoyment. The slight downside is that Hugo is not allowed near the pitches so we won’t be walking him at the same time as we had planned… ☹️
