Schools out… !!!

Sadly it really is – we got a letter on Saturday morning advising us that the Silcoates Board were considering the closure of the St Hilda’s school and consolidating it with the existing Sunny Hill and Silcoates Junior school.  The proposal will close the school from the end of the current school year.  Clearly this was not the news that we wanted to be reading on Saturday morning as Elliot is really getting on well at the school.

It actually really frustrates us since the main reason for Elliot going to the school was because the class sizes were so handily small for Elliot as he was introduce to English education.  Hence we were comfortable spending as much money on his education vs. the state provided education system (30+ pupils per class).  The likelihood is that the junior school will now have 10 more pupils per class pushing those classes over the 30 number….

There does appear to have been significant frustration at the school this morning also with  a couple of Silcoates board representatives in attendance at the school this morning, but it seems that it was mainly a defensive stance that was taken by the main man.  Sadly this is not the sort of thing that you should expect from a representative in such a situation – if this is the best guy for the job, then it suggests that the Silcoates Foundation actually don’t care for their customer at all.  The guy talked over pretty much anyone who asked him questions and would not give answers that differed from the rather standard “this is a business and it is losing money” approach.  He absolutely must have known he was walking into a group of parents who simply want to understand what and why, and not to have some pompous idiot who clearly has not run through Customer Services 101 simply lose his temper.

We also found that the teachers were only advised of this situation themselves on Friday – a less than great start to any weekend 🙁

We have booked an appointment to go and see the Junior school and Sunny Hill (under 5’s) tomorrow so at least we will be able to compare it to the local school (that is now very much back in contention.

We now feel like we were not told all relevant and pertinent information 5 months ago when we signed up to the school.  Class sizes of 30 makes the school no better than a state school in one respect – something that we need to carefully consider now.

We will see over the coming days what happens next, but I think it fair to say Oliver will be taken out of Nursery ASAP.

Really feeling for the teachers and staff at St Hilda’s today 🙁

Day 11 – end of play…

I feel like I am saying this every day but we are getting closer…

The fridge was delivered for the kitchen today but sadly it is not the one that we wanted so it has to be returned in the coming days – guess this means more delays before we can actually make use of the kitchen properly 🙁

The house bathroom is now completed given that the shower screen has been fully installed.  The tiling is almost complete in the downstairs bathroom, the new radiator is in and the toilet and cistern are in place 🙂  Just got the unit that will hold the sink etc to go and the final bits of tiling.

The kitchen and utility both are to be tiled and the plasterer needs to finish off the skimming, and the electrician to sort the power to the microwave and macerator.  Then just the fridge to go and we should be set.

YouTube videos

Daddy picked up his iPad just a few moments ago and upon switching it on, the screen was on the YouTube app – there were several very worrying looking videos right there on screen – the sort that even Daddy shouldn’t be watching.

It was at this moment that daddy saw the search box and the search criteria – “pusi” hmm…. And then oh dear…. 🙁

It then dawned that Elliot had obviously been helping Oliver find some pussy cats and had therefore not quite found what he was looking for……

Let it snow !

Looking at the iPhone Weather forecast app earlier today, it stated clearly that there was a 100% chance of snow between 18:00 and 20:00. 100% !!! really?

So the snow actually began at 12:00 and stopped around 14:00 here in Ossett, and was a somewhat weak effort in all honesty.  However, it is having another go, and to keep all in balance it began again at just before 18:00 and now at 19:48 we have a significant amount of snow in place 🙂

We think that there was as much as 1/4 to 1/2 inch more snow on the ground when we got home some 30 minutes ago compared to when we set off from Green Lea on foot some 40 minutes earlier – wowzers…

We have enjoyed a relaxing day at Grandma’s swimming and generally relaxing 🙂  The boys have had a great time and are definitely going to get a nice sleep tonight 🙂 Olly fell asleep within 5 minutes on the walk home (in the stroller) so mummy expertly transferred him into his PJ’s and then into bed – he is soundly asleep in his Thomas bed 🙂  Elly is enjoying his Cocoa and will be heading to slumberland himself in 10 minutes or less 🙂

Tomorrow looks to be a day of snowmen and snowballs 😀

Day 10 – end of play photos…

So, we are at the end of week 2 and perhaps as anticipated, we are not quite there – although we are close.

The kitchen now has all of the surfaces in place and most of the cupboard doors are on and have handles etc.  The sink and macerator is in and the sink is in the utility, but the tap was faulty so we are awaiting a replacement.  There is still the tiling to do in here as well.  We think that there is another 5 days of work to go int completing all items.

The house bathroom only requires a shower screen fitting – otherwise is complete 🙂 Looks awesome

The ground floor toilet has been floored and tiled (just a few additional border sparkle tiles to go – then they can all be grouted and the fitments put in place.

The team have been very busy and are doing a great job.
