More trees to cut 🌳

Steve and Simon took down 5 more trees on Saturday – 4 sycamores and an acorn tree. All we roughly 40 feet high so not quite fully embedded but all we’re at risk of pushing a garden wall down.

We have a nice amount of firewood now available that has been placed in the log store at the bottom and back of the stack – THAT was definitely a bit of a back breaker 😔

We also planned the next stage of the cut back where we need to rent a cherry picker type of device to get high enough safely to cut back the bushes. We will also require a wood chipper as we are out of storage options behin the container for the smaller branches etc.

It already looks way better but sadly the existence of the ivy (also mainly removed) has caused a pretty significant impact on the trees and bushes that is now more obvious. Hopefully over time this will fill in.

An arse or an elbow?

Earlier today Simon went out the front to collect an Amazon delivery and as he stepped outside (with no shoes on), he slipped on the wet paving stones and went down like a bag of brown stuff. Landed on his elbow, backside (both on the right side) and right foot.

He collected the parcel and got inside to find the parcel covered in blood….. hmm, that was probably not right….. seems that somehow a small tear in his forearm had occurred.

It is reasonably painful so not looking forwards to trying to sleep comfortably tonight…..

Busy time in lockdown…

We have had a busy start to this week of school holidays.

Vicky has been busy painting the garden furniture and Simon has been busy in the garage. We now have a doorway in between the old garden storage area and the office – in readiness for making it into two offices OR an office and a gym.

Also, half of the garden store is prepped for drywall along with power and networking AND preparation for underfloor heating.

Next job is to prepare the walls in the main office with timber for drywall. To do this we need to manoeuvre the office furniture around to remove some / all of the existing flooring = a BIG job.

Finally we need to find a supplier of drywall plus more timber and other goodies to either deliver to the house or click and collect.

It will be terrific when done but seems to be a much bigger job than we first thought…..

Big Internet Day @ home

Hopefully today is the day that we receive upgraded internet here at home that can eep up with the needs of the household.

With living in a countryside environment, our broadband connection has never been that great and really suffered when the weather turns.

OpenReach have used our village as a test bed to trial Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) to be available in all homes and finally we are ready to make use of it.

The order was made on December 22 and today is installation day.

We should be treated (by tomorrow morning) to around 300Mb download speeds and 50mb upload speeds – a significant upgrade on our average 20mb down and 5 up that we are presently receiving. Well that and hopefully the complete removal of the dead times when we seemingly receive nothing much at all….

Hoping that we will be reporting good internet speeds and availability in the hours / day to come.

The Lurgy Visits….

This last week has been no fun in the household – poor Elliot started with headaches, fever and overall body aches last weekend – he still has a cough (came last) but has otherwise cleared it away it seems.

Simon picked it up next and started with it on Thursday and is just in the back end of it now.

Vicky collected it sadly over the weekend and is now nursing a rather uncomfortable cold that is only just beginning.

Olly is hoping for a pass on this one – it does seem to be gaining in power as it mutates onwards 🙁
