Oliver’s Parents Evening

Last night was Oliver’s turn for a remote parents evening – 5 mins with each teacher in an online solution that essentially just slices the connection when the countdown time reaches 00:00. It was from 6pm to 7:30pm and had a 10 or so minute break roughly half way through.

While online school has clearly overall had a negative impact for Olly, most of his teachers seem to be impressed with his attitude and general connection to the class during the remote time.

He is doing OK and (similar to his brother and father I hasten to add) his main challenge is in his desire to spend more time on a subject writing down better descriptive text. This was a common theme across all classes so we have something to focus in on.

Art and DT seem to be his achilles heal at the moment – a little more energy required here.

Overall, we are really pleased with progress although poor Olly had the two negative convos at the end of the evening so he didn’t have the luxury of it ending on the high that it has experienced throughout sadly.

Back to (in-person) school….

Today marks the first day of school for the kids of England – the boys were not best pleased to be back to being woken up just before 7am (they have been used to 8am wake-up calls since the beginning of January).

They had to go in last Thursday for the first (of many we assume) of their Lateral Flow Testing – which was super well organised and super quick – great job done at school there.

Sadly, this also marks the beginning of the school run for 2021 – today’s was a nice start with there being roadworks in Ossett – adding almost 20 minutes to the journey 🙁

During their time working from home, they have both slipped back a little with their grades so we all have a little work to do in order to get back into the right shape. Hopefully this all gets into shape relatively painlessly and without too many “fall outs” with the pair of them… wish us luck…

1st March – Coffee is BACK baby….

So, we undertook dry January (Vicky’s suggestion yet she lamented Simon all month for agreeing to it :-(), then Simon took on headachy February – that’s right – no caffeine during the month of February.

It actually ended up with very little in the way of headaches and today is the day that the coffee machine will be the busiest of the whole year 🙂

We also nipped to Costco post anniversary ring collection, so we also have Pepsi Max in #winning

Apparently, Simon cheated during the month as he consumed chocolate….. Some of which were supplied for Valentines day by Vicky so there is a deep suspicion of underhanded cheating….. 🙂

Anyway, we are back on, firing on all the cylinders, which is kind of handy as the warm snap from last week has been replaced with -1C once again this morning… brrrrr

Have a great week folks – it’s sure gonna be fun in our household – the last week of home schooling for a while and we are apparently waiting to see if Simon’s irritability vanishes along with the supply of coffee……

Happy Valentine’s Day

Wishing all a wonderfilled day, whether it be with your loved ones or dreaming of loved ones that you are unable to be with today. 殺❤️

We are enjoying some Sterchi’s wonderful chocolates and relaxing in front of a crackling fire.

The weekend has passed us by quickly (as they all appear to be doing of late) and we managed to get out for a walk before the rain – the rain may be the sign of warmer weather 爛
