Swimming Gala at School

This morning was the annual Year 1 & 2 swimming gala at school and parents were invited to watch. All the children were in races for their houses and then there were some relay races that all were involved in as well.

There are some very very good swimmers at the school amongst the year groups although everybody did really well today.

Sadly Elliot’s House (Yonges) did not fair so well on the day with just 62 points overall, with Evans taking the win with 102 points. Moore’s came in second with 82 and Spencer’s took third with 71.

In his individual race, Elliot decided to go for backstroke which he did really well with ( mummy’s stroke of choice apparently although not daddy’s) but would have done much better had he got the confidence to go for it without the armbands. Hopefully the extra practice / lessons on Sundays will help him gain the confidence to go without the help from the bands.

In his relay race, Elliot gained an extra 20 or so feet on his nearest competitor to have Yonges take the lead although sadly his colleagues in the race were unable to hold the win 🙁

A great event and the kids all seemed to have a really good time – the parents all certainly enjoyed watching – some even got a little competitive 🙂

We had just enough time to nip into Wakefield for a bite to lunch and a Costa and then right back to school to take Olly swimming 🙂

Clean bill of health at the Dentist

Today was our 6 monthly check-in with the Dentist and our boys were both given a clean bill of health and we are to head back in 3 months to have their teeth coating in some fluoride liquid. Apparently the Dental Society believe it to be the best way to get fluoride protection into children’s systems.

We are due another dentist change the next time we visit also 🙁

Signed up for Martial Arts Classes

The boys have been back to the Ossett Martial Arts Academy tonight and we have signed them both up for the classes. Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 17:30 for 30 minutes although Elliot will soon need to move to the next class as it is only for 4 to 6 year olds.

Elliot is definitely getting the hang of it but poor Olly has no idea what he is meant to be doing :-(. Hopefully the team at the Academy will be able to drill it into him as he is keen to do it.

We now have the proper uniforms so on Thursday they will be set to go wearing the same as the rest of the class – a big deal for Elliot as he does not like being different – it seems that the white belt is a big deal as he is wearing it now with his t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms 🙂

Swimming lessons and play in the park

Today was the boys first swimming lesson at the Ossett Academy – at 9am this morning. Perhaps mummy and (especially) daddy should have eased off on the drinks last night 🙁

We quickly learned that Elliot is a stronger swimmer than we thought and the lessons should help him get stronger and so hopefully he will be in a better position for our holiday in 7 weeks.

Oliver has little co-ordination so he tries hard but seemingly can’t do legs AND arms at the same time :-(. It was a similar story earlier in the week with the Martial Arts. So, we will have our work cut out to help him but he is only 4 so there is plenty of time and opportunities to help 🙂

After a good 30 minute swimming session, we headed out to Thornes Park with the scooters to meet Euan. The boys are getting a little more confident with their scooters and we think it will really help them gain balance skills in readiness for bike riding :-).

The early morning swimming is going to be great as it clearly got us out and about first thing on a Sunday morning rather than loitering at home.
