Pig Racing at Silcoates

Last night was the annual Silcoates Parents Association Pig Racing night – from 7 to 9pm, although as it happened it was more like 7 to 10pm as some key requirements did not make it on time – the pigs !!

What a great night – the kids loved the freedom to run around and blow off the stream from the week and then were on fire shouting for their pigs when the 6 races were actually on.

We didn’t go last year because we thought Olly was probably a little too young and would have been super tired – he definitely was super tired this year although thankfully he made it to the end πŸ™‚

We hope that there was a good amount of cash raised from the night and look forward to doing it all again next year πŸ™‚

Netflix has arrived in ForkHall

Last week daddy decided to trail NetFlix in the household – don’t think it will be quite as easy to remove it from the household as it was to install….. πŸ™‚

The kids LOVE it and despite needing to change the logon name Simon to Daddy (apparently Olly finds daddy’s real name hilarious – pronounced Si Β mon apparently – 40 years and it seems that Simon has actually been pronouncing his name incorrectly… πŸ™ ) they are beginning to use it instead of YouTube – that being said, they had YouTube removed from their iPads since they were beginning to watch inappropriate things again πŸ™ Β Elliot has renewed his love for the Power Rangers (Samurai of course) and Olly just watches all of the animated stuff over and over…

Vicky has also been watching a few of the TV shows that are available on it. In fact, we found the first series of “Death in Paradise”, a BBC show that we picked up from the beginning of the second series, and so this last few nights we have been catching up on it.

For Β£6.99 a month, so far it seesm to be a total winner and works really nicely on the TV’s with the Google ChromeCast installed into them, and like the XBMC solution, we can pause the show on one TV and resume it straight away on another – AWESOME.

Obv question, why did we not go for it earlier…..

While the sun shines…

Yesterday was a truly awesome day where the weather was concerned so after swimming lessons in the morning we decided that it was to be a BBQ day πŸ™‚ Mummy nipped out to grab some provisions and came back with the most impressive filets as well as a nice selection of sausages πŸ™‚

The boys played outside in the garden (24 degree heat) most of the afternoon on an off with potato guns (yet, we found them – they have only been sat in the garage for 12 months awaiting usage :-() and then the younger Rust’s decided that they were upgrading to water pistols – yep Daddy apparently the main target for a while πŸ™

BBQ fired up first time and was ready for service 25 minutes later – makes a change from the last time it was out on the birthday weekend – 2 hours later and it STILL was not up for the challenge of cooking…. grrr.

The steaks were sensational and we even managed to eat under the gazebo before the sun went down. Great way to finish a half term holiday πŸ™‚

Day Trip to Lightwater Valley

Mummy had a great idea last night – to get up and out early and head north to Lightwater Valley near Ripon.

We arrived just before 11am, played in the MEGA Angry Birds Activity Centre, then on and into the Angry Birds Space area, before heading off to the rides πŸ™‚

It has been around 30 years since daddy has been here so he did not recognise any of the rides and sadly the death slide has clearly long since gone πŸ™

The water slide was particularly good fun although mummy was less keen on the steps that led up to it – they were metal see through steps that meant you could see easily just how high up we were πŸ™ Β Elliot and Oliver definitely got a SHOCK when it came to going down that particular ride – made Elliot feel very uneasy πŸ™

All in all, it was a great day out even with daddy spilling half a bottle of water on himself and Olly at lunch time πŸ™ it soon dried πŸ™‚

Do you think Olly enjoyed the pirate ship?

First Family Bike Ride :-)

Yay – today we managed to get out on the Spen Valley Greenway for an hour or so on our bikes.

We went after visiting Grannie Cuckoo following her return home from the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary this past week.

Check out the video of our ride today on YouTube.

Both boys did terrifically well as wel covered a little over 3 miles in total with a couple of small hills to contend with. Β We are definitely ready for bigger rides πŸ™‚
