Daddy has taken a big step in mobile communications – 3

After careful thought, Daddy has taken a pretty big step and bought a 12 month contract with 3. It is a sim only deal and costs just £15 a month for unlimited (and tether able) data, 2000 minute of calls and 5000 texts a month. The winning combo was the unlimited data that can be tethered to other devices AND the fact that the phone can be used in many countries (US being the key one) and the fact that the existing allowances are all available to be used while there at no extra cost. Yes, that’s right, daddy can use his phone for unlimited data in the UK AND US as well as for 2000 minutes a month in the UK or US (so long as calling UK numbers of course).

There is clearly some issue over whether the 3 network is suitable for voice calls although is well known as being a very good data network.

Let’s wait to see if he begins to complain about the network in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, it will be fab and in which case we will look to fear Mummy’s over as well. £42 to £15 a month is a winning price 🙂

Bedroom TV

Finally, the TV in the bedroom is completed with the lifter in the cabinet working beautifully. There was a small issue with the TV fouling the base of the lifter unit that meant the lifter was not happy and consequently lifted the TV an inch or so back up – making the cabinet lid be open ever so slightly.

To fix the issue, Simon cut some 12mm tube spacers and bought some extra long screws to force the TV to be a further inch away from the lifter. The result was that the problem was instantly fixed 🙂

Now all that remains is to consider using wired networking rather than making use of wireless LAN for the TV (Smart TV functions such as iPlayer and the like) – the wireless LAN appears to not quite be capable to hold a connection long enough to run an entire show.

Actually, there is a challenge with the Blu Ray player and how it fits into the cabinet such that we can easily insert discs and watch them. At the moment it is just sat in the base of the unit so is sub-optimal.

Great afternoon avec les Drewetts :-)

We had a leisurely morning starting with swimming lessons this morning at the Ossett Academy pool. Then up to the Hare and Hound pub for a Sunday lunch with the Drewett family. A lovely lunch was had by all although we are glad we made it before 12:30 – got super busy in what seemed like no time :-). Finally we drove over to the Bretton / Yorkshire Sculpture park and all went for a lovely walk around the top section of the park. The last time we went to the park we came away unimpressed – largely (it now seems) because we went to the Erin part of it 🙁 Today we experienced a whole different park that we all thoroughly enjoyed, with a renewed like for the place . Therefore we will probably go bak for a similar wander again sometime – today it was cold but bright which made for a great combination 🙂

Back to school and work in the morning although it is a shorter week tho week in terms of Daddy being away – he comes back on Wednesday night this week 🙂

Rainwater collection recording back online…

Simon noticed that the ForkHall weather station was not recording rainfall and has not done so for over a month 🙁

Today, he cleaned out e rainwater catching device (spider city) and set it back up again and it seems to be working again :-). In the mean time a new collector has been ordered (£5) just in case….

Shame it was not noticed earlier as October has been a particular wet month and none of it has been captured 🙁

Daddy’s Journey to Work

Fortunately daddy was scheduled to drive to London this morning as there has been a predicted storm for the last few days for this morning.

It transpires that the railway line at Peterborough is as far south as we can go from Yorkshire today (due to trees having fallen on the line and overhead power cables just south of there). As a result daddy would not have been getting to London today.

He was already taking the car so that was one issue averted – however once he got to Luton, the stop start traffic began. It continued that was pretty much the whole way into the office in Ealing – taking some 2.5 hours for that particular leg of the journey.

As a result it took just a smidge over 5 hours to make the drive and of course there are no chances to sleep (as there are on the train) so something tells us that daddy will be TIRED later 🙁

The traffic was so slow in fact, that daddy reports he was able to change in the car in the traffic on the M1 safely and in fact without the engine running – apparently nobody noticed his doing this but….
