Blood tests – and a Bank Holiday

The midwife requested that we took Oliver in to see a paediatrician just to be safe – since he has only gained 10g since the last midwife check.  So, we were in Pinderfields shortly after 13:30 on Sunday – we waited until 16:30 before we actually got to see the doctor (pretty frustrating really) but they decided all looked OK, but that they would take a blood sample and do some checks against it – to ensure Oliver’s sodium levels were OK.  So, we were then allowed to leave and that the results would be back in an hour or two, and that somebody would call us.

We ended up calling back at 17:00 today (so 24 hours later) so see what the status was – seems that we had been forgotten about and now we have to go back tomorrow (or Vicky and Oliver do) and go through the whole ordeal again.  Great.  The efficiency of the NHS never seems to surprise us.

On other matters Simon has dragged most of the ivy off the fence in the back garden and has managed to (shock) NOT damage himself in the process.  He usual receives some form of gardening injuries whenever he is doing anything of value in the garden 🙂

Did we speak too soon??!!?? :-(

The little monkey did not put any weight on for his weigh-in on Friday 🙁  The good news is that he didn’t lose any weight either but still, the signs are not quite as positive as we would have liked.

Vicky has started issuing Oliver with the odd additional top up, but is very keen to continue with booby scoobies.  The current issue could well be that if he gets too used to the bottle, then he will potentially get lazy and then be not too bothered about booby scoobies since he has to work much harder to obtain that sort of food.

Bank Holiday weekend, and thus far it has been pretty overcast – not quite the red hot sunshine that we have been promised by the meteorological folks 🙁

Still, there are two more days left in the weekend – you never know….

The only way is up, baby !!! :-)

On his last midwife check-up on Wednesday, we found that Oliver has finally begun to put some weight on 🙂 He has put on 3oz so is now weighing in at 7lbs 12oz. The panic (that was almost about to begin) is not required fortunately. The downside to all of this is that he has figured out that he would like to be (and can be) fed every hour on the hour – regardless of whether it light or dark outside. He does not discriminate the dark hours 🙁 So, we had two weeks of reasonable sleep and now poor Vicky is getting next to now sleep during the night and little chance during the day either. We have obtained an electric milk extraction device so that maybe we can bottle some booby scooby and then daddy could do a couple of night shifts….. Simon took Vicky’s car down to the garage for a quick check-up following the battery discharging itself twice in a week – it transpires that all is OK and that it is purely lack of use that caused the issue. Makes sense I guess, but still we needed to be sure that all was OK, if Vicky is going to be out in it with the boys 🙂 The conservatory folks are coming back a week tomorrow to hopefully fix the leak in the conservatory roof – we wait with baited breath….

Oliver is losing weight :-(

He has lost a further 60g today (or rather since Friday) which is not great news 🙁

So he now weighs 7lbs 9oz – he was 8lbs 6oz at birth, so he is closing in on the 10% that he is “allowed” to lose.

Vicky has been unable to express any reasonable quantity of milk, and Oliver is more than happy to chew on the nipples all day given the chance – guess just like any bloke right?

The midwife has suggested letting him have the first 10 minutes or so, and if he is demonstrating that he is just “doing what boys do”, then take him off, wake him up properly and start again.  He is definitely better at getting the milk out than the manual method but not good enough it seems.  We have given in and let him have 1 1/2 oz of SMA Gold today – he took it down in under 10 minutes and then took on a 2 hour sleep – Vicky had to wake him again in order to try him again with booby scooby.

Midwife is coming back on Wednesday to assess if we have lost more weight and hence to determine what to do – think we may well have already decided to go with formula milk in honesty.

We have also booked him in to see the doctor tomorrow since his cord has now come off, but has left behind a single worm like piece of skin that while is OK, it may be some thing that can be quickly and easily removed.  Will see tomorrow 🙂

Rain, rain go away, come back another….. year ?

Well, we have had two days of what feels like continuous rain 🙁

Yesterday, we went to Sheffield to Monkey Bizness to give Elliot some soft play centre time – he had a real ball – tired daddy out as well.

Today, we have had the conservatory blinds fitted today – they are really nice and hopefully will deal with the brightness of the sun – not that we can find out today – the rain is handily shielded by the roof and windows, so the blinds did not offer any help there.

This all being said, we did find time to crack open the new charcoal BBQ today since we have hosted Frank, Sophie, Fabrizio and Rhiannon in the afternoon.  It is really nice to see Elliot playing so well with other little ones – he and Fabrizio have played well all afternoon and Elliot shared all his toys well, including his “red car” – the 6v battery powered car for outside.

On it’s second outing, the grilling went very well – somehow, Simon’s skills are not half bad – no seriously BF’ed food yet.  That’s right, we said YET 🙂
