Car rented for a few days…

We decided today to rent a car to do a little exploring for a few days – a €35 daily rental ended up being €100 per day of course once it became clear that we wanted five doors and A/C. So, a little Mitsubishi Colt was dropped off for us tonight at 6pm and we have already been out to Portimao and Lagoa on a small trip, before stopping off at an Italian restaurant in Carvoeiro for dinner. The service in the restaurant was incredibly slow – took almost 2 hours πŸ™ so a good job the food was pretty good. The boys did well to behave as well as they did for the whole time as they were clearly very bored and tired come the end.

To top it off, we returned to the car and daddy was struggling to get the key in the lock. He quickly realised that the rest of the Rust clan weren’t at the car… turns out they were at the car, just that daddy was trying to get into the WRONG car !!!!

It has been a relaxing but chilly day today – the sun didn’t make its presence felt until 6pm so we have actually had a home day today reading / playing etc.

Tomorrow, we go in search of shopping… πŸ™‚

Slide & Splash Water Park Day

Reasonably early start today as we were collected by coach at 9:40am and 20 minutes later we were at the Slide & Splash Water Park in nearby Lagoa. Accordingly the best water park in the Algarve, but given it is the only one we have been to, we can’t really compare πŸ™

We pretty much arrived as the park opened so the first few slides were without queues of consequence and the boys found a cool slide (number 6 on the photo) that they enjoyed playing on as they could just go round and round having go after another :-). We have lots of photos of the action and even a couple of bits of video that we will sort out when we get home.

Daddy managed to coerce both boys to go on the black hole (number 5 on the photo) which was a double tube that rides down through a pitch black tube for about 30 seconds before breaking out into a large pool. Both boys loved it although thankfully were not bothered about immediately going back on – the queues were beginning to be reasonably significant πŸ™‚

Olly and Daddy also went on the Tornado (number 20) which was a huge wait (30+ minutes) for a decidedly average ride. Olly enjoyed it however, so all was not wasted πŸ™‚

The children’s section was pretty good as well with plenty of little slides for the boys to enjoy and they actually spend upwards of an hour just messing about in the actual swimming pool (number 19) which admittedly they.could have done at the apartment complex for no charge….

This definitely is the sort of water park that older kids and young adults would invariably have a great deal of fun as some of the slides looked awesome – for example, slide number 7 was mega fast and looked like a good thrill ride if you wanted it to be – we have some video of some average riders – sadly the thrill seekers were always just after or just before the camera came out….

All in all a great day out that for us was worthy of the cash as Olly got in FoC and the rest of us were on a family ticket that basically got Elly in FoC also πŸ™‚

Early night now for our sleepy boys …. Zzzzzzz

Carvoeiro Beach

We decided to take the courtesy bus down to Carvoerio today at 10am to spend some time down on the beach, then grab a bite to eat in a local restaurant and then head back to Rocha Brava at 2pm to let the boys mess around in the pool for a couple of hours.

Carvoeiro is a little seaside village with plenty of bars, a handful of nick-nack shops a a nice beach. We were in te beach by 10:20 having bought a couple of beach toys in a shop we passed en-route. The boys had a fun couple of hours and even mummy and daddy got stuck in helping them build a tide barricade and fixing it a half dozen times as the tide persisted it’s way in to shore πŸ™‚

We are now back at the hotel having agreed to do an evening in the town later on in the holiday to vary our food intake :-). The last courtesy bus is at 5pm which should prove perfect for the boys and their need to eat soon after this time. A taxi back might be €7 so hardly a deal breaker πŸ™‚

We have also bought tickets for the local water park tomorrow since the temperature is set to drop to mid 20’s so will be ideal for a whole day in it πŸ™‚

We are also considering renting a car for a few days towards the rear end of the holiday to explore some more but we will figure it out nearer the time.
