Checking in for our Portugal Holiday…

We thought we had booked Monarch airlines for our trip to Portugal at the beginning of July, but it seems that it is actually Jet2. We can check in 28 days before we actually fly so we took a look tonight.

It seems that Jet2 charge £24 to check in online (Christ knows what it would cost at the airport on the day) and £5 per seat each way (on top of the fact that we have already paid for the flights), then £36 to check a bag and best part of £10 for a meal.

Guess we should have read the small print in mor detail as we are now down a further £160 and we haven’t even arrived at the airport yet (or even packed a bag!!)

Cheap flights my ass.

Windermere weekend :-)

We head out to the lakes on Friday morning for a fun packed weekend in the Windermere area – this was to be the first time that we would be staying in a hotel – we selected the Windermere Manor Hotel between Windermere and Troutbeck Bridge – more about it later.

Friday was a day to enjoy a walk around Grasmere (and to collect some of the fabulous Gingerbread of course 🙂 ) and to take a leisurely swim in the hotel pool, followed by a nice dinner in Bowness at the Village Bar and Grill opposite the church in the centre of town.

We met up with the Box’s from Saturday morning onwards.

The weather was TREMENDOUS – sunshine all weekend and 20+ degrees Celcius – YAY!!!  The last time we came to the lakes with the Box’s it was very good weather as well – they are clearly good luck regarding the weather 🙂

So, we head out to Ducky’s Park Farm on Saturday morning (there were not many people at the farm so it was a lovely relaxed time with the maximum amount of time to spend on everything 🙂 and finished the day playing in the park at Grasmere – Bowness was just too busy and our two soldiers fell asleep in the car – strangely about 60 seconds AFTER daddy put Bob The Builder music album on in the car…  We actually got to the farm BEFORE opening time and were sat in the car park for a little while before anyone else got there – the evidence is below for the non-believers 🙂 :

P1020218

We had a fab Magic Wok Chinese meal at the Box’s place (high up on the hillside above Windermere town) with a stunning view out over the lake:

P1020338

On Sunday we walked to the top of Orrest Head above Winderemere town and just out of the top of the garden from the Box’s place – awesome garden with tremendous views and hidden paths etc for the kids to forage around in – that’s pretty much all they did on Saturday evening :-).  Bite of lunch at the LightHouse in Windermere and on to the park in Waterhead with the scooters for an hour or two.

Then finally in the car for a looooonnnnnnggg ride home thanks to some poor family that had crashed there motorhome 🙁 Hopefully they were all OK and got out of the wreckage safely.

Finally, here’s a link to all the photos that daddy took over the weekend.

Bank Holiday weekend in the garden :-)

What a wonderful weekend for the kids and the weather. Three cracking days with little cloud coverage and plenty of glorious sunshine 🙂

We took advantage and painted the fences in the front yarn along with the fences down the back of the house. It took a solid 2 1/2 days of both Vicky and Simon and Tim and Heather helped for the first 1/2.

It looks lime we have fitted a whole new fence around the garden – with the exception of the bit in the front garden that was wind damaged – it will stay this way as it would need all taking up to fix that little problem – it has been that way for nine years so is unlikely to change anytime soon 🙂

Elliot and Oliver have spent the whole weekend playing can their scooters and as a result have built up their skill level nicely. On top of this we have taken the pedals etc off Oliver’s bike and he is using it as a balance bike. We have also ordered a new bike for Elliot so that we can begin the job of teaching him to ride a bike properly. Hopefully we will be able to get it sorted ASAP and then he can enjoy a little freedom of being able to ride a bike 🙂

Fountains Abbey day trip

We set out this morning at just after 10:30 heading to Fountains Abbey near Ripon – part of the National Trust gig that we bought into earlier in the month.  May as well get our money’s worth 🙂

Anyway, it was a cold day today, despite the sun making some solid appearances.  The boys LOVED climbing around the Abbey but were a little less keen on the walk to the water gardens at the other side of the area.  We even managed to find the (well hidden) golden egg during our trip – see if you can find the photo of Elliot pointing to it 🙂

Poor mummy has been poorly for the last few days and today was no exception sadly – ibuprofen wore off half way around and we left additional drugs at home 🙁  Cold drinks appear to keep the swallowing pain at bay a tad, although the ibuprofen helps to reduce the pain completely for an hour or two.  Hopefully tomorrow mummy will feel a bit better, else a trip to the Doctors will be in order – i.e. it will be the 5th day of illness 🙁

Photos from today are in the photo gallery but here is a link to them to save time…

Trip to the National Space Museum near Leicester

This morning we head out reasonably early with one of Elliot’s friends form schol, Euan and family.  We spent a few hours in the centre and had lunch etc there.  There was loads to do and the three boys just ran around from exhibit to exhibit, some of which were interactive so they were well entertained.  It was a little draining for the parents in that it was a full time job keeping an eye on them, but they had fun.

Then we went back to Euan’s house for coffee and playtime for the boys.

Sadly, on the way home a young driver ran up the back of Bruce so we need to head into see Grant (bodyshop in Ossett) to determine if any damage has actually been done.  At this early stage, it looks like she has been awfully luck and not really caused much damage (i.e. *should* polish out) to Bruce, but her little Citroen did not do quite so well as her car went underneath the back of Bruce and said hello to the towbar area etc 🙁  Oh yes, and the rear wheel hub has had binding brakes again today so Landrover are coming out tomorrow to check it out again 🙁

A few photo’s from the Space Centre however below… 🙂
