The Lion King at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford

Gracie’s grandma invited us to join them all at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford to see The Lion King. We had a simply fantastic time and the show was truly out of this world. If you have not seen this show and can find it on near you – DO IT – you will not be disappointed.

We took Gracie and her mummy and daddy out for dinner afterwards as a thank you, but given there were 10 of us (including Euan and his parents) we struggled to find a location that could fit us all in. We ended up at Chiquito’s in Birstall, which we have not had a great deal of success at before. However, the meal was lovely, the company was of course top notch and although the food took an hour to arrive, it was certainly worth it.

A great day all round – thanks to the Box’s for their hospitality – we had a great time.

RIP Max – you have been a great friend and will never be forgotten

Sad news that today was the end of our Big Brown Bear’s run. Β He was just too tired and his body had all but given up on him, despite his mind clearly wanting to go on πŸ™

The last two weeks have not been fun for the big guy as he struggles to get up and no longer had any interest in eating or playing with either Pepsi or the boys πŸ™ Β Breathing had become tiresome for him and overall his quality of life was degraded to a point that he clearly was not in control any longer πŸ™

Thank you for sharing your life with us Max, we love you and will miss you every day buddy – enjoy your sleep now that you are freed from your bodily woes πŸ™‚

First real day of summer

Today was a shorts and tee shirt day – not just for daddy but for many others. Daddy had to come home to change into his shorts and to leave his jumper behind after buying Olly’s new bike but before test riding it in the park πŸ™‚

19 degrees was just about reached today and we don’t recall seeing a cloud in the sky all day!!! – YES πŸ™‚

Super Sunday

We have just had an awesome day today πŸ™‚

Started off with some terrific swimming – Elliot practised breast stroke and it looked pretty flawless to the spectators and Olly did backstroke WITHOUT armbands or any other flotation help πŸ™‚

Breakfast in Newmillerdam was just lovely and then out to ride our bikes on the Spen Valley Greenway on the other side of Dewsbury. Β Oliver asked us to put the pedals back on his balance bike so we decided to go and buy him a new bike since the balance bike is WAY too small – he chose a rather fetching Batman bike in Halfords πŸ™‚

When we picked up the new bike (took 45 minutes to build it up and get it ready for action) we went straight to our favourite field for bike riding practise near our house and would you believe it, he just got up on it and rode it away πŸ™‚ Β OK, so he needs to work on his leg power to be able to pedal on anything other than slight downhills, but the balance and steering looks pretty good πŸ™‚

This last image is especially for Grandma Cuckoo – she will know why πŸ™‚

P1040144Finally, to top off a great day, Elliot’s second front tooth (top) finally came out – all day we have badgered him to pull it out and he kept “putting it off” – he came in after playing in the garden tonight for a little while and requested its removal – mummy helped and BOOM πŸ™‚

Shame that the chap that washes the cars broke the trim on Bruce’s sidesteps while washing it today – that was the only down of the day πŸ™‚

Dalby Forest on the mountain bikes

The original plan was to head up to Hamsterley Forest today with Lee and Ed. Thankfully Ed checkout out the website a few days ago and figured that various bits of the trail were closed off. Upon diagnosis, it seems that quit a lot of the trail was closed so we decided upon a last minute diversion to Dalby Forest and my was it the RIGHT decision.

We arrived shortly after 9am and got out soon after – we chose to start in the Low Dalby car park and hence we would have the worst climb FIRST – another great decision πŸ™‚ Just under 3 hours and around 30km later we got back to the car park exhausted but having given it our all. I think it fair to say that we had forgotten how much fun this place was – although Simon just recalls being the most tired EVER – but then the last time was almost 30degrees Celcius so that will have no doubt had a major part to plan in the exhaustion πŸ™‚

Next time we will need to do the full 40km (all the red sections and the black) although clearly we will need to be super fit to do this πŸ™‚

Simon got back, washed the bikes and sorted the CCTV so that all cameras are now ON and adjusted for optimum coverage :-). Just got to figure out how to control and configure stuff remotely if at all possible as then could hide the box away and not think about it again…
