York races…

What a busy week !!!!

Vicky and Simon went on a coach trip to the York Racecourse last weekend – an accident on the A1 motorway ensured that we spent 3 hours 10 minutes on the small minibus which really started the day of with a wonderful bang πŸ™

Then, once we had made our way inside, we were met with a 20 minute queue for the toilet, 45 minute queue for the cash machine, a 30 minute wait for a beer or hotdog, and just 3 minutes for a cab to head into York City Centre.Β  Guess which option we took πŸ™‚

Not an easy decision since we went in a group, but in fairness we struggled to find any of the group within the grounds since there must have been a couple of hundred thousand people in there so the decision was made MUCH easier.

We ended up having a fab meal at the Living Room overlooking the river, and slowly made our way home via train.Β  The day ended up being significantly better than the outlook from that damned coach πŸ™‚

Sunday was another fun day – went to Hornsea village in the desperate search for decent weather – unfortunately it was not to be found – did have a nice day out however, and finished it off with a meal out with Greg and Sue – Elliot enjoyed a Turkey Sunday lunch. He definitely has the taste for Turkey dinners since he had one last weekend at the Red Kite also πŸ™‚

Temper, temper…

Daddy was introduced to Elliot’s temper tantrums last night – while changing his clothes ready for bed, Elliot had determined that he was not ready and that he still wanted to play with the police car that he has learned how to use.Β  So, after a little while of crying he looked at daddy and simply screamed his distaste …….

Apparently he has been doing this for a little while – Simon was definitely unaware of it and rather taken aback.

The personality is definitely coming through and there is no question that he has the patience of his daddy πŸ™

Sorry mummy……

Happy Birthday Jenny

Well, Grannie Rust is out of hospital now, and is back at home enjoying the pampering of those around πŸ™‚

Will the damned rain ever stop? Totally miserable week once again with the rain, and this has impacted Simon’s journeys to work big time – 2 Β½ hours to get home last night πŸ™

Vicky’s car needs 4 new tyres – all ordered from our local Costco store – the fronts have arrived but the rears have not and there is currently no scheduled delivery time – a quick call around a few more garages spells a similar story πŸ™ Will be at least 3 weeks is the message that we get from them all – why oh why does that little 1 Series require those specialist tyres – double the cost of standard tyres, half the mileage and ten times the aggravation πŸ™

Elliot is still not quite walking – he is definitely getting strength in his legs as he can almost stand up from sitting down with just one hand for guidance πŸ™‚

Here is the little star with Grandad

Grannie Rust not well… :-(

Out for a meal last night at the Watermill near Garforth since Jason and Lizzie are heading stateside for a couple of years – they are going to be working near Washington DC.

As usual, a fab meal and Elliot behaved well considering he was three hours past bedtime by the time we got home.

The weather here is still not so clever but at least the nasty rainfall that was threatened has not appeared πŸ™‚

Grandma Rust has taken a turn with cellulittus during the week, so unfortunately has been placed in hospital so that the condition can be controlled quickly. It worsened quickly and seems almost under control right now. The main issue for us is that the ward that she is in, has recommended that we stay away since there is some form of illness in the ward that we could contract and apparently (they won’t tell us any more) it would not be a good thing if Elliot contracted it.Β  At least Calderdale Hospital has a cool telephone system in it where each bed has it’s own telephone – i.e. at least we can speak with Grannie πŸ™‚

Teething…

Another packed weekend gone by ……

We saw Simon’s mum and Grandparents on Saturday and were on airport duty early on Sunday morning collecting Vicky’s parents from their Cuban vacation.

We think that Elliot has his first top tooth coming through as Sunday night and all day today he has been a little monkey.Β  While he won’t let Vicky near his mouth, it looks as though his front right upper tooth is heading south πŸ™‚ Hopefully it will come through really soon, and his discomfort will cease for a few days (until the other one heads south anyway…)

Elliot is beginning to get very steady on his feet as well as reasonably rapid at the crawling stuff, so we went and bought two safety gates – one for the top of the staircase and one for the bottom.Β  We also invested in a large play den area for him, that can be unfolded to make a handy fire and TV guard or (as we have it setup) to simply keep him in one side of the lounge and hence is unable to get close to the TV or the fireplace.

The weather is pretty bad at the minute here in Ossett, with many local roads having been closed due to the flooding and many local rivers have burst their banks etc.Β  Amazing what a few days of heavy rainfall can do and the damage that it can leave in its’ wake.Β  We are suitably high enough up that a river is extremely unlikely to cause us damage but with all of the silt and crap in the storm drains, who knows if we could find ourselves in a flood scenario – let’s just hope not….. And the rain has stopped….. for now……..
