Frog jumped and scared mummy in the garden

Tonight the boys asked if they could play out in the garden after school, so once they got changed out of their school uniform, they popped on some wellies (is still wet and quite muddy in the garden) and went out to play.

15 or 20 minutes later when mummy nipped out to bring them in for dinner, she found that in the short time frame they had managed to create a large mess out there.  So, while she was tidying up the outdoor toys she moved some cars and a large frog jumped out at her, causing a little muted scream 🙂  Elliot was quite pleased (not because of the scaring incident) but because he had never seen a live frog before – only on the TV or toy frogs.

The boys are BOTH very tired tonight however so were both ready and in bed by 7pm.  Hopefully they will get a full 12 hours sleep and be ready to take on Wednesday in the morning.

We have run a new route for the school run in the morning by taking Oliver to Sunnyhill first and dropping him in the pre-school club and THEN heading up to Silcoates to drop Elliot off.  It means that we don’t have Oliver running amuck while we are waiting to leave Elliot and means that we can actually be back at home well before 9am.  Two days in and it is still working particularly well, so maybe this will be a permanent change to the route.

November is cold and dark :-(

but at least not tooooo wet 🙂

Feels like Christmas is just around the corner now – Vicky been arranging a Christmas Party for some school parents – kind of frames it – Christmas IS just around the corner….

Daddy spent a few days in London working this week, so mummy had the joys on her own for a few days.  Oliver can be a real handful and this week he has been right on top form it seems.  Interestingly enough, he got a pretty good review from his school parents evening on Tuesday (daddy missed it 🙁 ) although school were not committing to state he is intelligent 🙁 We know he is a little smart ass, but whether that makes it through to academic skills is still not proving consistent it seems.

Winter is most certainly upon us though, with coats, scarves and hats being the name of the day for most outdoors based activity.  Walking down and back again to Alicia’s Birthday Party last night was testament to the nip in the air.  The boys definitely needed the blanket in the stroller to keep them warm during both journeys.

This week, our friends Rich, Clare and their boys Alex and Ben are heading back to sunny Northern California for a long term stay.  They are heading to Almaden to live and have managed to secure the same cars that we had when we were there, from Clint.  They scored a cracking deal as well which just makes it all work nicely 🙂  I guess we are a little jealous as their lifestyle is about to change (in our opinion positively) for a long stretch – just hope that the distance between themselves and family etc works out OK – as we know that first 3 to 6 months is HARD – and given that Christmas is just around the corner, that will only add to the initial pain.  Good luck guys 🙂

Mountain biking in Sherwood Forest

Yesterday, Simon Tim, James, Lee and Sam head down to Sherwood Pines for a pootle around the red route on the cycle path.

Thankfully it did not rain BUT clearly it HAD rained a lot – VERY muddy on a significant portion of the route.

We generally had a great time although poor james needed to stop 50 yards from the end of the route (Kitchener Trail Red Route total is 10 miles) for a swift TV (Tactical Vomit).  The silly sod also didn’t bother with cycling short so he is gonna have a sore ass today and tomorrow…. 🙁

We have already booked ourselves to head over to Llandegla in North Wales on the 1st December.

This morning we have seen the first frost of the winter season thus far – ice on the car windscreens (those that are outside) 🙁

Tina left ForkHall earlier this week – Simon has decided to enlist the help of the guy who he bought her from – more likely to secure a sale from a well known specialist dealer of these types of vehicle.  Hopefully a sale will be upcoming in the next few days / weeks…

Great weekend but now it is DARK at 5pm…. :-(

The boys spent the weekend over in Halifax at Grannie Cuckoo’s – well until Sunday morning that is as they had a birthday arty to attend in Denby Dale.

Mummy and Daddy were out on Friday night at their favourite restaurant (The Hepworth near Holmfirth) and they were not let down – the usual high quality service and food was delivered – and a pianist in the bar to boot 🙂  The good news is that we are heading back for another meal there in under a month 🙂

Then on Saturday night it was Sheffield’s Motor Point arena again, only this time with David and Julie to see John Bishop’s show.  We had a nice meal in Pizza Express before heading in – the delay in getting food to the table meant that more beer was consumed than ideally should have been – thus Simon was not feeling that cleve by the time the night was coming to a close.  A trip to McDonalds helped apparently :-s

This weekend was the end of the summer as far as the clocks are concerned, so we all enjoyed an additional hour in bed – hence it is now lighter in the mornings BUT darker in the evenings.  So, as I look out of the office window, it has been dark for the last 20 or 30 minutes now 🙁

Also, the COLD weather has really picked it up a notch over the last week or so – we are now almost at scraping windscreens in the mornings and the house definitely is feeling very cold during the nights.  The thicker duvets will more than likely be making an appearance in our rooms very soon…

Great weekend in the Lakes

We have just got home from a fab weekend in the Lakes – the weather was absolutely stunning – perhaps the last good weather weekend of the year maybe??

Brockhole – TreeTop Trek – October 2012

Check out the above video (20Mb – as a note this is an M4V file hidden as an AVI to make it stream OK – would not play as native m4v for some reason :-() for quick action shots from the TreeTop Trek setup in Brockhole Visitor Centre – it is really cool but slightly expensive to ride – i.e. £26 for the full gig just felt like a lot of cash….

We have of course grabbed a few packs of Gingerbread from Grasmere GingerBread and as alway are wondering why we do not go more often.  If only we had more time and less Children’s Birthday Parties 🙂
