St Hilda’s School Trip to Filey :-)

… this is the boy who DID NOT want a donkey ride…

We have just got back from a really cool day out with school.  It was a slightly earlier than usual start with us arriving at school at 8am as opposed to just before the bell goes at 8:50am 🙂  We all boarded two buses (Foundation and Reception in one and Forms 1 and 2 in the other) and set off for Filey.

We found out pretty early into the journey that not only was the AC not functioning in the coach, but the toilet was also in-operable 🙁  We had 25 under 6 year olds, so the latter was somewhat a showstopper.  We stopped the other side of York for a toilet break, so Simon thought it was the ideal opportunity to grab coffee and bacon butties.  Sadly 10 minutes after ordering said butties it was clear that they were not going to be ready in the next 5 and we were already being waited for…. So armed with coffee but no butties we got back on board.

We managed almost 30 minutes on the beach at the South beach before the tide came right in, allowing us time to walk back up to the park by the golf course, have lunch, a donkey ride (above) and play on the park toys / climbing frames etc.

Then we all took the short walk down the ravine and then around the promenade to the amusement park area by cobble landing.  The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves along the way and then were rewarded with bouncy castled, roundabouts and a whole heap of other rides before enjoying an ice-cream in the sunshine.

Amazingly the sun stayed out pretty much the whole time we were there (impressive given the rain that we have seen this last few days) and just a little rain appeared as we boarded the coaches up on the Filey Brigg (by the caravan park).

We swapped coaches for the return journey leaving the poor souls in Forms 1 and 2 to deal with the lack of AC and functioning toilet.  A good job ref the toilet as it was very well used by the children once we had travelled the first hour on the journey home.  Everyone was worn out with quite a few ‘sleepers’ on the coach, setting us all up for a fabulously relaxing weekend…
