Bank Holiday Weekend

All the boys went for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Grandma Cuckoo’s so that mummy and daddy could head down to Stamford, Lincolnshire for a night away.

We stayed in a beautiful B&B right in the town centre and spent all afternoon on Saturday in the pub enjoying a few cheeky beers. To really set it off, Simon found that the pub in question actually had San Francisco’s finest Anchor Steam beer on DRAFT !!! WOW. so four beers, two large glasses of wine later and Simon was ready for dinner….

Incredibly he managed a few more glasses of wine AND a couple of Kir Royale to end the evening :-). How he was still stood upright and NOT asleep is beyond any of our comprehension….. 🙂

Incredibly, he did NOT have any form of hang over in the morning either 🙂

Stamford is a beautiful little town steeped in history and great eating and drinking holes. A lot like the centre of York in many ways – no place for cars or gardens 🙂

Before collecting the boys from Grannies we head out for a Sunday lunch with Grandma and Granddad at Heald Hall in Liversedge – a fantastic meal and at a great price – might just go there again but with the boys – see if they can behave 🙂

Cycling….

Last night daddy went out cycling with Ed and they started up at Ed’s place in Overton and basically went on an exploration trek.

They got into the top end of Coxley woods by the prison and decided to head over towards Bretton. They got into the Bretton country park and then nipped down towards Clayton West and then up towards Emley. As they neared Emley it was beginning to get a little late and a little dark so opted to try to find some paths / bridle ways through the fields to get back to Overton.

Well, it became a bit of a mess as we were clearly on heavily overgrown footpaths that we really shouldn’t have been on but took the view that they were that overgrown that it really didn’t matter too much. The final field had just been ploughed and was super dry – hence there were huge dried up divots and no pathway so pushing the bikes was in order. The farmer was in the field next door in his huge ploughing machine and clearly he caught sight of us, so moved his tractor / machine to the entranceway and just waited. The guy was clearly after an argument / fight as he started out effing and jeffing – brilliant. At least it hag ace us yet another topic of conversation for future meets 🙂

All in all a good ride out but with the knowledge that there are no bride ways etc over on the Emley hillside. Next time the trek down the side of Coxley woods is required – not allowed inside the woods as there is a large nature reserve in there so pedestrians only.

Clumber Park Day

Yesterday we visited Clumber Park in Worksop, Nottinghamshire with Elliot’s class friend Jessica and her parents. We have never been there before but will most certainly go back there with bikes and picnic etc again.

The weather held out until the moment we were leaving (the heavens opened on us as we drove out onto the road just outside the park) so that was pretty much perfect.

Sadly Olly was not on good form yesterday as he had several mini-meltdowns and one pretty major meltdown during the trip – all pretty much about nothing 🙁

We played cricket, football, tennis and also with the spinning tops (helicopters and tyres) that Oliver got for Christmas (and that we have not really played with due to needing HUGE open space) for what seemed like no time but that had actually been a few hours 🙂

We definitely look forward to returning to the Park at some time in the not too distant future…

Peanuts came to stay

This weekend, Oliver brought Peanuts home from school.  Peanuts is a monkey who loves to hang around with the children of the Foundation Class and go on exciting adventures with them all.  This weekend, his adventure was in Ossett with Oliver and we think he had a fun packed weekend.

For starters he went to the Playstation with Oliver after the Swimming Gala on Friday afternoon to play followed by some outdoor action in Oliver’s Big Black Jeep in the garden.  On Saturday Oliver’s friends Jessica and Eleanor came to stay so they all played together and then cuddled up to watch a movie (they picked the Polar Express in 3D would you believe…)

On Sunday (after Jessica and Eleanor head home) Peanuts and Oliver went to Ella’s Birthday Party at the Swithens Farm in Rothwell near Leeds.

Tomorrow it is back to school and the fun of the School Sports Day up at the main Silcoates playing fields 🙂
